Centrifuges with Nitrogen Purging
Centrifuges with nitrogen purging are configured for application-specific processes. Nitrogen flows through the centrifuge chamber to reduce its oxygen content. Pressure and oxygen monitoring control start enable and monitor the chamber atmosphere during centrifugation.
Purging and monitoring
| Function | Description |

| Purging sequence | The motor and other electrical loads are switched off before purging. Nitrogen enters the centrifuge chamber from below; purge gas exits at the top. |
| Start enable | A pressurisation system and an oxygen sensor monitor the chamber atmosphere. An incorrect gas supply, such as compressed air instead of nitrogen, prevents start enable. |
| Monitoring during operation | The pressurisation system and oxygen sensor have separate power supplies. If either system reports a fault, a safety relay disconnects the relevant live components; the rotor coasts unbraked to a standstill. |
| Power failure | Bypass purging maintains nitrogen flow when mains power is lost, provided the corresponding instrument configuration and an available nitrogen supply are present. |
Configuration for your process
Nitrogen purging alone does not authorise centrifugation of flammable or explosive substances. Suitability must be assessed for the sample medium, operating conditions and specific instrument configuration.
For technical selection, please provide:
- sample medium and any solvents present
- sample volume, vessel material, closure and required rotor
- required speed or relative centrifugal force (RCF), and temperature
- available nitrogen supply and installation conditions
